What is Content Curation?

There is a lot of hype about “Content Curation” throughout the online world.

Just what is Content Curation?

Content curation is the art of finding, filtering and selecting the best digital media content to support your topic or interest. Most of us have been doing this for a long time if we ever had to write term papers, research reports, writing papers in which other sources were used to support a subject or just normal blog posts. Fundamentally, a content curation project involves searching through the various digital content, selecting the best and then presenting it in a way that is easy to comprehend. It boils down to finding, organizing, presenting and/or sharing. Lots of software exists that can help with content curation and in some cases literally automates it.

If you have a website you need content! It is not a once and done thing, content must continually be refreshed. Most of the Curation tools work hand in hand with SEO so your traffic will be increased.

I have assembled a list of this software which basically automates one or all of the finding, organizing, presenting, and sharing tasks. Quite a few of these sites have blogs from which you can get better acquainted with the content curation process.

Starting

“Planning without action is futile, action without planning is fatal. – (Unknown)

I believe there are many people who have been researching internet businesses for years. They are collecting lots of information and hoping to find some way to come up with a plan that is perfect. Most of these people will never start a company. I call that getting stuck in phase one. There are other people who decide that they may not have the perfect plan (most have no plan) but they just want to blast off and make the necessary in flight course corrections. Some of these people may succeed but the majority will fail. Those that have made a plan have a better chance of success. In creating a plan there are some facts and there are some assumptions. Make all assumptions opaque in your planning. That is make sure these assumptions are not overlooked and considered as facts. When the business actually starts you can start inputting actual data in place of the assumptions and create more realistic expectations to more closely chart your course.

Preparations

“At no time are we ever in such complete possession of a journey, down to its last nook and cranny, as when we are busy with preparations for it.”  –Yukio Mishima

If you are thinking about going into an Internet business but haven’t decided exactly what it is that you are going to do, there are some things that can be done before you start. When you actually start the business, you are going to be extremely busy. As mentioned in the previous post, you are going to need business tools. You will need accounting software, you will need various social Networking software, you will need an autoresponder with some intelligence. Not only will you need these tools, you will need to know how to use them. You will probably need a website or a blog. If your heart is set on getting into an Internet business, start thinking about the items I have mentioned. Most of these items have free trials. So start trying them out. This will help you start to feel more comfortable about your business. One thing that everyone should get is a support group. When I started my “bricks and mortar” business, I had a board of directors. I also had memberships in the chamber of commerce and also in local technology groups. These groups provided me with a lot contacts who were my support group. Virtual or online support groups are available and can really be a big help on a number of items.

First Things

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.” -Mark Twain

If you are contemplating starting an internet business are you considering everything? One of the things that some people fail to consider from a planning perspective is success! I am sure they think about what success could mean in terms of benefits; more money to spend, quitting their current job, a sense of accomplishment, and maybe more free time. I am sure that this list contains different items for everyone. However, in your planning have you considered success and its consequences on business needs? Stated another way, will you have the infrastructure necessary to handle business information requirements such as accounting, customer relationship management and communication for tens of thousands of leads? Will you have automation in place that will allow you to continue to grow and still have time to tweak your plan? You can’t be spending all your time in your business and none on your business!

This site is dedicated to helping you achieve success in your home or online business.
